Gallery Idol 2013- round 2

001-001

Ack!! Here we go! So excited and so nervous! The voting has begun for the second round of Gallery Idol 2013! Please head on over to the Gallery Idol contest page and VOTE!!

You Can VOTE FOR MY CARD HERE!!

The card you see above is the one I submitted for this round, and the theme of the round is Defining Dad. As I thought about how we  define dads the usual stuff came to my mind: sports, BBQ king, techie geek, etc. etc. But then I realized that even though dads may vary on personalities and what kinds of things they enjoy, when it comes right down to it there is one thing that really defines dads. And that is the influence they have on each of our lives. Some influence us for the better, and maybe some for worse, but the influence a good father has in the lives of his children is priceless, irreplaceable, and sticks with us till the end of time.

I’m thankful for the wonderful influence my husband is to our children. He takes time for them, encourages them, believes in them, pushes them to be and do their best. So I thought it would be fun to incorporate a photo of Eric with one of our kids, and I chose this one of Eric and Chloe. The relationship between father and daughter is sweet and tender and I tried to convey that by printing the photo out on vellum. It gives the photo a soft and dreamy look. And goodness, I just love the grin on her face in this photo!!

And what dad wouldn’t love to receive a Father’s Day card with a priceless photo like this?

003-001

I went with clean lines and a sleek look for the design of my card. I wanted the photo to be the focus, but the rest of the design to be interesting in a non distracting way. I cut the vellum on a hard angle to mimic the lines in the patterned paper. That gave me a great little spot to tuck in the sentiment. A few brads and a bit of color add interest, but still keep the design edgy and masculine.

The stamp set I used is the Timeless Classics set from Sweet & Sassy Stamps. The patterned paper is from Crate Paper, the brads are from Stampin’ Up!, the chipboard letters are from Basic Grey, and the vellum and card stock are from Papertrey Ink.

Now, don’t forget to get on over to the Gallery Idol contest page and vote……………for me, please!!!  Hehe!

Thanks SO much for stopping by and for participating in this fun contest!

Hugs!
